Over the years I have done a fair few rugby fitness podcasts and interviews. Two that are particularly relevant if you are interested in improving your performance, fitness or conditioning are below.

The first is a conversation I had recently on The Experts Hangout podcast. While it is not rugby specific, we cover motivation, behaviour change, why people struggle to stay consistent and what actually makes training stick long term. These are issues I see just as much in rugby players as I do with the general population.

The second is an older rugby fitness conversation with Nic Gill, the strength and conditioning coach for the New Zealand All Blacks for over 15 years. He now works in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. I recorded it just before the 2015 Rugby World Cup final but it is still relevant today as we discuss rugby conditioning, training approaches and which All Blacks were the best athletes he worked with.

One thing that came up repeatedly in both conversations is that most players spend too much time looking for the perfect programme and not enough time making sure they consistently execute the basics. Fitness, strength and performance usually improve far faster when you become more consistent rather than more sophisticated.
